Inspired by woodland environments, this children’s interior collection aims to create a tranquil, comfortable space where both young children and parents/carers can immerse themselves in hand-painted watercolour illustrations. Designed for a nursery, the collection comprises of wallpaper and textile fabric designs. The collection is focused on well-being, with the aim of creating a peaceful sanctuary for families to unwind and relax within the home.
The creative process involved capturing details from leaves, textures of fungi and intricate patterns of tree bark using photography. I then developed this into hand-painted watercolour pattern designs, focusing on the calming effects of nature, and the beauty of woodland plant and animal life. During the initial stages of the project, I developed experimental samples using print techniques, such as mono-printing and discharge printing, exploring how I could use these processes to translate the tactile textures of the forest into textile outcomes. Using this exploration to inform my ideas, I developed the designs using CAD techniques, then digitally printed them to create interior fabrics and wallpaper outcomes. |
